Japanese Head Spa Rituals
A Deep Reset for Your Nervous System
Where Mind • Body • Soul are fully engaged
A Restorative Scalp
& Holistic Wellbeing Experience
Oxygen Japanese Head Spa is a restorative scalp and nervous system ritual designed to calm the mind, soften the body and restore inner equilibrium.
And it began with a pause.
Welcome Note from Alwyn
Founder of Oxygen
The Story Behind Oxygen Head Spa
What began as a forced pause became something far more meaningful.
During a period of injury and recovery, I was given space. Space to slow down, to reflect, and to reconnect with why I created Oxygen Wellness in the first place.
In that stillness, a new vision began to form.
Not a styling service.
Not another treatment.
But a space where scalp health meets deep restoration and true nervous system care.
After eight months absent due to injury I was forced to pause working with my scalp wellness clients. It was through healing and personal evolution, this vision has taken shape. Oxygen Japanese Head Spa was born from that pause and from years of study that, at the time, I didn’t fully realise were leading me here.
For many years, I have immersed myself in ancient wisdom traditions, Chinese medicine, Qigong energy work, Ayurvedic balance and holistic scalp therapy. Each country I travelled to, each teacher I learned from, each practice I studied quietly became part of a bigger picture.
Today, those threads are woven together into our signature Oxygen Japanese Head Spa rituals.
This space exists because of my clients, their patience, their trust and their belief in what Oxygen represents. I am deeply grateful.
I have poured my heart and soul into creating something that feels intentional, restorative and truly unique.
A place where you come not for styling but for stillness, an invitation to slow down and return to yourself.
With gratitude,
Alwyn

Wellness & Finishing Ritual
To preserve the integrity of the wellbeing experience:
Hair is gently dried while you remain relaxing using low heat and soft airflow.
Styling blowdries are not included within the Wellness space.
Ayurvedic scalp infusion oils will be applied on the hair & scalp and will need to stay in your hair for further benefits of the treatment .
If you wish to add styling, this may be booked separately in the Salon but we recommend you leave extended time between appointments for full integration.
Wellness is inward.
Salon is outward.
We honour both intentionally and separately.
Oxygen Japanese Head Spa is not about how your hair looks when you leave. it’s about how your nervous system feels when you return to the world.
Frequently Asked Questions
Japanese Head Spa is a therapeutic scalp and relaxation ritual that originated in Japan, combining specialised cleansing techniques, warm water therapy and rhythmic massage to improve scalp health and deeply relax the nervous system.
Traditionally performed lying down, the ritual focuses on restoring circulation to the scalp, relieving tension stored in the head and neck, and supporting overall wellbeing.
At Oxygen, our Japanese Head Spa is further enhanced with Ayurvedic principles, Qigong acupressure and aromatherapy to create a complete mind–body reset.
Ayurveda is a traditional system of holistic medicine that originated in India over 5,000 years ago.
It is based on the principle of balance supporting harmony between the body, mind and environment to achieve overall wellness. In Ayurveda, health begins with understanding your individual constitution and restoring equilibrium when stress or imbalance occurs.
Within our Head Spa rituals, Ayurvedic principles guide our use of herbal oils, grounding techniques and nervous system support. The focus is not only on the scalp, but on creating overall balance and stability.
Qigong (pronounced “chee-gong”) is a traditional Chinese practice rooted in ancient medicine that works with breath, gentle movement and focused intention to regulate the body’s energy, or “Qi.”
Qi is understood as the body’s vital life force — the energy that supports circulation, clarity and overall wellbeing.
In our Head Spa rituals, Qigong-inspired acupressure techniques and breath awareness are used to encourage energetic flow, release stagnation and support nervous system regulation.
The result is not only physical relaxation, but a deeper sense of internal alignment and calm.
A nervous system reset refers to intentionally guiding the body out of a heightened stress response and into a state of calm, balance and regulation.
Modern life often keeps us in a constant state of stimulation, deadlines, screens, noise and emotional pressure can activate the sympathetic nervous system (often known as “fight or flight or stress response”). When this state becomes prolonged, it can lead to tension, fatigue, disrupted sleep and mental overwhelm.
A nervous system reset encourages activation of the parasympathetic response, sometimes called “rest and restore.” This is the state where the body can relax, repair and rebalance.
Through warm water therapy, therapeutic scalp massage, rhythmic touch, breath awareness and aromatherapy, our Japanese Head Spa rituals gently support this shift.
The result is often experienced as:
- A quieter mind
- Softer muscles
- Slower breath
- Emotional ease
- Improved sleep
Japanese Head Spa supports the foundation required for healthy hair growth.
By improving scalp circulation, removing buildup, stimulating the follicles and enhancing oxygen and nutrient delivery to the scalp, it creates an optimal environment for stronger, healthier hair.
While it is not a medical hair-loss treatment, regular Head Spa rituals can support scalp vitality, reduce congestion and encourage healthier growth over time.
Healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp.

Your therapist will guide you based on your scalp condition, lifestyle and nervous system needs.
Many guests choose to incorporate Head Spa as part of their ongoing self-care routine.
Yes. Japanese Head Spa is fully adaptable to different scalp types.
- Oily scalp – Deep cleansing techniques help remove excess sebum and buildup while restoring balance.
- Dry scalp – Nourishing oils and hydration-focused massage support moisture retention and comfort.
- Sensitive scalp – Gentle pressure, customised essential oils and calming techniques are used to avoid irritation.
During your consultation, your therapist will tailor products, pressure and techniques to suit your individual scalp condition.
Japanese Head Spa can be highly beneficial for tension-related headaches.
The ritual focuses on releasing tightness in the scalp, temples, jaw, neck and upper shoulders — areas where stress commonly accumulates. By improving circulation and calming the nervous system, many guests report relief from pressure and stress-related discomfort.
While it is not a medical treatment for chronic or migraine conditions, it can be a supportive therapy for tension headaches linked to stress and muscular tightness.
If you suffer from frequent or severe headaches, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider.
Absolutely.
Japanese Head Spa is suitable for both men and women and is particularly beneficial for those experiencing:
- Stress-related tension
- Oily scalp or buildup
- Early thinning concerns
- Poor sleep

The ritual focuses on scalp health and nervous system regulation rather than cosmetic styling, making it ideal for anyone seeking restoration and clarity.

No. Head Spa rituals include gentle drying to a natural finish only. Oils are applied to the hair and scalp for further benefits. This protects the depth of the nervous system reset.

Yes. For rituals including facial massage, we ask that makeup is removed prior to arrival to ensure optimal results and comfort.
Our Japanese Head Spa rituals are deeply relaxing and generally safe during pregnancy.
If you are in your first trimester, have a high-risk pregnancy, high blood pressure, pre-eclampsia or any medical condition, we kindly ask that you consult your healthcare provider prior to booking.
For clients beyond 16 weeks of pregnancy, lying flat for extended periods is not advised. As our rituals range from 45–75 minutes, we recommend selecting the shorter experience for comfort and safety.
Please inform us when booking so we may adjust oils, pressure and positioning appropriately.
Your wellbeing is our priority.
An alternative medicine technique It is based on the concept of life energy (Qi), which flows through meridians. In treatment, physical pressure is applied to pressure points with the aim of clearing blockages in these meridians. Pressure may be applied by finger, hand, elbow, or various devices.
Grounding is a self-soothing skill to use when you are having a bad day or dealing with a lot of stress, overwhelming feelings, and/or intense anxiety. Grounding is a technique that helps keep you in the present and helps reorient you to the here-and-now and to reality. Our therapist will guide and support you during your head spa ritual to alleviate any feelings of ungroundedness . Our rituals will help you feel more balanced and grounded to feel your best self again.
Meridians are the pathways within the body along which vital energy is said to flow. There are twelve such pathways associated with specific organs.
Our head spa rituals we work with pressure points on the meridians to improve energy and blood flow to improve your wellbeing. A pressure point is a specific part of the body that can be pressed or massaged to relieve pain or other ailments. Pressure points are also used in complementary and alternative medicine practices like acupressure, reflexology, and traditional Chinese medicine.
Applying pressure to a pressure point can activate nerves in the muscles, which can help reduce pain and other sensations.
Gua sha is a traditional Chinese medicine technique using a smooth-edged tool to massage the skin, primarily used for facial rejuvenation, lymphatic drainage, and relieving muscle tension. On the face, it is used to reduce puffiness, contour the jawline, boost collagen, and brighten skin. It increases circulation to ease pain. Gua Sha is included in our “Empower Me” ritual .
Sanskrit word used in Yoga & Ayurveda medicine. Chakra means WHEEL and it refers to centers of subtle energy in the body that are said to spin.Chakras are seven main, non-physical energy centers located along the spine, from the tailbone to the crown of the head, acting as focal points for life force energy (prana). Originating from ancient Indian spiritual traditions, they function as "wheels" of spinning energy that regulate physical, emotional, and spiritual health. When balanced and open, they promote well-being, but when blocked, they may cause emotional distress or physical. Our head spa rituals help to support and maintain balance in your chakra system for greater health & wellbeing.
Aromatherapy is a holistic, therapeutic practice that uses natural plant extracts and essential oils to improve physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. By stimulating the sense of smell (inhalation) or applying diluted oils to the skin (massage), it aims to reduce stress, improve sleep, and alleviate pain. We use aromatherapy oils in all our head spa rituals to bring peace, calmness and balance to improve your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
Use gentle and sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. These products are less likely to strip away the treatment’s benefits and are kinder to the scalp.
Drink plenty of water to keep the body and scalp hydrated from within, promoting healthy hair and scalp.
Limit Heat Styling: Try to minimize the use of heat styling tools such as hair dryers, curling irons, and straighteners, as excessive heat can damage the hair and scalp.
Protect from UV Exposure: Protect your scalp from UV radiation by wearing a hat or scarf. UV exposure can damage both the scalp and hair.
Massage Your Scalp: Gentle scalp massages between treatments can help maintain blood circulation, stimulate hair follicles, and reduce stress.
Use the pads of your fingertips to apply light pressure and promote relaxation.
What to avoid Post-Care:
Avoid Washing Hair Immediately: To allow the treatment products to continue working, avoid washing your hair for 24-48 hours after treatment. This gives your scalp time to absorb the nutrients and moisture.
Avoid Hot Water: When washing your hair, use lukewarm or cool water rather than hot water. Hot water can strip the scalp of its natural oils and moisture.
Avoid Excessive Hair Products: Limit heavy styling products and hair sprays that can build up on the scalp and weigh down the hair.
Regular Maintenance: Depending on your specific scalp and hair needs, schedule regular Head Spa Treatments at your practitioner's recommended intervals. Consistent maintenance can maximise the benefits over time.
Be Patient: The full benefits of a Scalp Facial may not be immediately apparent. It may take several days or weeks for the effects to become noticeable, especially if you had specific scalp concerns prior to the treatment.
